As with each of the Green Room Awards Association panels, the Opera Panel recognises and rewards excellence, where it sees fit, on the operatic stage in Melbourne, in line with Association’s Constitution.
To be eligible for consideration by the Opera Panel a production must have a season of no less than three performances. If a one off performance is worthy of consideration a special category can be created for that production if deemed appropriate.
Currently there are nine categories of Opera award:
- Best Production
- Conductor
- Lighting
- Design
- Direction
- Male lead
- Female lead
- Male support
- Female support.
The Opera Panel may, at its discretion, introduce an additional category to recognise a particular, one off contribution. This is decided at the annual panel meeting.
