Named Awards presented by the Green Room Awards Association Inc:
The Lifetime Achievement Award is made to a person who is distinguished by the quality, profile and longevity of their achievements and by the extent to which their contribution has been of value to a younger generation of practitioners. The person need not have a direct affiliation with Melbourne, but their work will have had a significant impact here.
The Outstanding Technical Achievement Award acknowledges the invaluable contribution of those whose the audience does not see: a theatre-maker who has advanced the form through their technical excellence in aspects of theatre craft other than performance.
The Betty Pounder Award for Original Choreography is dedicated to the memory of the late Betty Pounder is made by the Association with input from both the Dance Panel and the Music Theatre Panel.
Pounder (as she was universally known) worked across all genres of dance including the incorporation of dance into plays and opera. Thus the award may be given for choreography in any branch of the performing arts. Input to this award will usually come first from dance practitioners and relate to work made for the first time on the Melbourne stage.
In recent years the Music Theatre and Dance Panels have determined by consultation if there is a piece or body of work of choreography worthy of consideration. The decision with regard to the award is then left to the respective panel in which the work may have occurred in that year.
